Moto G5 vs Moto G5s: which one to buy?

Motorola released its mid-range Moto G5 earlier this year, and this week, it released a special edition of the Moto G5, called Moto G5s, which the company is hyping for its larger screen and its metal design. A lot of fans and consumers might be wondering how it compares to the regular Moto G5. Here's a comparison of the two devices:

Specs comparison for lazy people

Moto G5s comes with a larger 5.2" screen, compared to a 5.0" screen on the G5 at the same resolution. The Moto G5 is thicker than Moto's newer G5s phone though it's a lighter device. The G5s comes with a Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, while the G5 also comes with the Snapdragon 430 clcoked at the same speed. The G5 offers 2/3GB RAM set ups while the Moto G5s only comes in 3GB. Both come with Android Nougat, 7.1.1 on the G5s and 7.0 on the G5. Both will be updated soon to Android O, while the two come with a mostly stock experience.

The rear-camera on the Moto G5s comes with 16MP which is more than the 13MP on the G5, while the front camera is the same. Both devices also sport 3,000mAH batteries.

Innovation comparison for those who care

Both devices are marketed in similar ways. Both offer a premium design at an affordable price, and the price difference won't vary much, as the difference depending on where you are will be of $100 dollars.

Metal designs, stock android experiences and fast performance are key features of both devices, as you can see. With Moto G5s, though, you get access to new Moto Experiences, which adds new features from time to time, like an improved active display, a newer Moto Camera app and the awesome "Show Me" feature, which is an always-on command that opens whatever app you tell your Moto to open.

Conclusion: It's obvious the Moto G5s is a much better choice if you have the money, but that doesn't mean the G5 would be a lesser phone. The G5 is already available and makes a great choice, while the G5s might take months to be available and that could be a trade-off if you need a phone right now. In that case, we recommend the Moto G5.

With the G5s, you get a better camera, a larger screen, and an improved design. Is that worth paying $100 over the G5 and waiting a long time to get it? Let us know your answer in the comments section.
